Finance Council Year-End Report - December 2022

Dear Holy Trinity Parishioners:

Below, you will find the Financial Report for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2022. The report breaks out each Operating Entity: Church, Religious Education (which includes our Youth Ministry) and our School.

There was an operating surplus for 2021/22 of $165,368, which is highlighted on the attached statement. This surplus resulted from lower than budgeted expenses tied to church staff vacancies and fringe benefits, as well as lower than anticipated costs for Services, Materials and Supplies, Rentals, Utilities, and other expenses. Additionally, the Parish benefited from higher tuition revenues and school fundraising initiatives.

Revenue: Our primary sources of operating revenue were regular Sunday contributions and Other Collections which together totaled $860,165.  This number was below budget by approximately $80,000, but was offset by the school revenues. Total Revenue equaled $2,037,343.

Expenses: The largest Parish expenses are attributable to compensation and benefits for our school faculty and church staff, in addition to continued support of the school, which furthers our mission of education. Other expenses are related to maintaining the premises, and contributions to the Parish Center. Total Expenses equaled $1,871,975.

We would like to highlight a few key points:

  • A special thanks goes out to our school principal, Dr. Pam Simon. Through her diligent work, the school applied for, and received, hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants. These funds were used to purchase new computers, smart boards, iPads, and chargers, among other uses. Her hard work, and the hard work of the school staff, have helped the school maintain the motto: “We are a blessing, not a burden.”

  • The Parish Center Project continues to move forward! We have achieved many significant milestones this year, including receiving Diocesan approval for the project, approval from the Village of Westmont, and the creation of construction plans. We have also received many significant new donations from our parishioners, which have helped to bring us closer to our total goal. As we near the finish line, we still need a strong push for additional donations, due to rising construction and material costs. Please prayerfully consider making a donation.

  • Finally, as mentioned above, Sunday offertory collections were down again this year from budget. This deficit can be attributed in part to a related drop in mass attendance, as shown by the year’s October count. We would encourage all who can do so to return to weekly mass in person, and to consider resuming normal Sunday offertory contributions. Fr. Rafal, and the Finance Council, are aware of the economic difficulties brought on by the COVID pandemic and the current inflationary environment. We would ask that you be as generous as your means allow.

We would like to thank all the Parishioners of Holy Trinity Parish. We are truly thankful for your contributions of time, talent, and treasure, which make this Parish the great community it is today.

Blessings,
The Finance Council of Holy Trinity Parish:
Molly Condon, Marty Curinka, Jack Kubik, Marita Lareau, and Ed Ziarko
